Any custodial worker knows they are more than "just" a janitor-- and we agree!
At Accurate Building Maintenance, our team members are the backbone of our business and the heartbeat of our #purpose: creating clean, healthy, safe communities.
They take care of our customers, so we take care of them like family-- the best kind! We are so grateful for all they do each day. We love to see them grow and succeed, and it’s our privilege to recognize them for their dedication.
Our monthly Employee Spotlight series features one of our amazing team members, showcasing what it’s like to work in the cleaning industry at Accurate, where we #keepitfun. This month we are happy to introduce you to Tyrone "Ty" Copley, aka "Mr. Clean" in Flagstaff, Arizona!
I had the pleasure of getting to know more about Ty as both a person and a professional during our recent Question & Answer session. It was one of the most refreshing and enjoyable conversations I’ve ever had! Read on for some #wisdom, #humor, #straighttalk, #motivation, and #inspiration from this amazing guy whom we’re so privileged to have on our team.
Ty has been with Accurate for 5 years. He was nominated for his reliability, professionalism, outstanding work ethic, dedication to excellence, and team-oriented mindset. In particular, he was a huge help during a recent change in Flagstaff's management. Both our client and Accurate’s company leaders are impressed and grateful for Ty!

“Ty is a vital part of the Flagstaff team. He comes through for Flagstaff, no matter what is asked of him! His attendance is A+, and clients praise him for his positive, upbeat, and funny personality. He’s a true asset to our Flagstaff team and our entire company.” -Sherry Mason, Accurate Team Member
Accurate’s Vice President of Operations Rico Rodriguez nominated Ty for this month's Employee Spotlight, saying, “He gets along well with our customers, does not miss work, and is always ready to help when called to cover other accounts."
“Our goal is to create raving fans out of our customers.” -Rico Rodriguez, Accurate's Vice President of Operations
Rico often emphatically reminds all our team members of this goal, which some might call lofty-- especially in the highly competitive janitorial service industry. How do we accomplish this? By maintaining smooth operations, providing consistently high-quality service, and ensuring our team’s success. Our partnerships with clients and employees are founded on strong relationships, both of which are crucial for maintaining customer satisfaction and loyalty. Ty's interpersonal skills clearly shine in this area.
"Whenever I have interacted with Ty in the last four years, he is always pleasant with a smile on his face. If we have any requests, he is quick to respond and take care of it for us! His customer service is excellent. His work is thorough. Bottom line: Ty is a pleasure to work with, and we are thankful for him and Accurate Building Maintenance!" -Angela Hamby, Director of Events & Community Relations at Moonshot at NACET, Flagstaff, Arizona
WHAT TY HAD TO SAY ABOUT THE JANITORIAL INDUSTRY AND WORKING AT ACCURATE
What is your WHY of being a cleaning industry professional? In other words—what brings you to work each day besides needing to earn a paycheck? I’m a cleaner by nature. I like cleaning, and people appreciate it—especially restrooms. When COVID happened, we were deemed “essential.” That’s how I’ve always felt—that keeping things clean IS essential. Not like an obsession, but a pride in my work. People appreciate it, and their compliments and gratitude mean a lot to me.
What keeps you motivated at work?
The job! Making people happy and keeping my buildings clean. Just showing up and taking care of the bathrooms and employee breakrooms; making sure everything is clean, smells good, and is stocked. The people at my buildings appreciate me so much. They give me appreciation, and that motivates me to meet the highest of standards.
What has been your proudest moment working at Accurate? Being chosen for the Employee Spotlight is my new #1.
Two years ago I was on medical leave for a few weeks due to a ruptured facial artery and had several procedures and two emergency surgeries. Accurate and our client were both so supportive! The client didn’t want anyone else to take care of their building while I had to be gone. And everyone was so pleased, relieved, and happy when I got back.
What’s your favorite thing about working at Accurate?
I’m able to do the type of work I enjoy mostly independently, but I still get to interact with people on the job. I like that the work is task oriented and that outcomes and success are measurable.
Which of Accurate’s core values resonates most with you and why? #Respect! Because you have to earn it—and when you receive respect, you feel accomplished. It’s a high regard kind of thing.
What is one thing you wish people knew about your job? We’re not here to inconvenience people—we’re here to help and take care of you! Working in the janitorial industry, I’ve seen people kick over the “Wet Floor” sign outside a restroom, call me names, and tell me they’re going in anyway. I know you have to pee, but if you fall and bust your elbow, you’ll be worse off, and I’ll be in trouble.
What or who inspired you to pursue this career? My mom was an Army nurse and a single parent. She taught me the importance of keeping things clean and orderly—hospital corners on the bed, dusting, etc. My first jobs were in restaurants, and that’s where it really clicked in. I always went the extra mile beyond my given job duties to clean, restock, and organize everything. My coworkers called me “Mr. Clean” because of my bald head and cleaning obsession.
Ty’s Guiding Principles (Thanks, Mom!) My mom instilled some very important concepts in me. 1. “Represent yourself in whatever you do.” 2. “Do it right the first time.” 3. “People appreciate it when you try your hardest.”
WHAT TY HAD TO SAY ABOUT HIMSELF
Read on for some fun Q&A where Ty shared some deep thoughts, insightful perspective, wisdom, and his characteristic wit and humor.
"What would you most like to tell your 13-year-old self? Boy, stay your butt in the gym and don’t worry about these girls!" 😉
If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you?
Will Smith.
If you could meet or interview one person (dead or alive) who would it be?
I’d like to meet and chat with Barack Obama. I’ve got some questions!
If you could do another job for just one day, what would it be?
A police officer, so I could help people see how hard that job is.
How do you define #success? Show up on time, have and keep a great attitude, develop a strong work ethic, do your best work, and be there when you say you will. Do what you say you’ll do, do it thoroughly, and do it well. When you start receiving appreciation and respect, you know you’ve succeeded—remember, you’re representing yourself!
If you were an animal, what would you be?
A lion—they keep things in order.
What is your #1 pet peeve?
It’s a tie between two things: 1. When people want a job (to have money), but they don’t want to work. 2. Rude people.
You’re happiest when ___ [fill in the blank].
1. When I wake up! I’m a morning person.
2. When I wake up and nothing hurts.
If given a chance, who would you like to be for one day?
Ron Finken* and give myself a big fat raise. All the respect for Ron, though! He’s a great guy and sharp businessman. *Accurate Co-Founder
Seriously though—someone with a lot of influence, so I could help as many people as I can.
What do you like to do when you're not working?
I like to stay fit and work out at the gym and play basketball. I'm 6'5" tall and play center. I also run around after my three-year-old grandson!
What is something you can't live without? My grandson! Spending time with him, playing tag, swinging, active stuff when he visits from Phoenix.
If you were stuck on a deserted island, what three things would you bring?
A blonde, a brunette, and a redhead. Just kidding! 🤣 Hunter-gatherers, of course. *pause* Should we leave that first one off the record?
Thank you, TY, for being a #standout employee, #leader, #superstar, and #inspiration! We’re so glad you’re part of The Accurate Family.
